The take-away message of the meeting that applies to both music and life: You’re trying to do something that’s massive, so you’ve got to go at it in increments of 3 steps at a time. Don’t get ahead of yourself; what are you’re very next 3 steps going to be?
P.S. Have to be clear that I’m not in talks with him to manage Sunset Electrics, he’s just helping me out as part of the friendly music community we have here in Phoenix :)
In summer of 2004, I was in Costa Rica and went swimming with what’s called a “super-pod”. This super-pod was made up of thousands of dolphins swimming through the ocean, doing back-flips, and partying hard.
I asked the biologist on the boat about dolphin life. He told me they pretty much just swim around, talk and play with each other, eat fish that they don’t have to farm or herd, have dolphin sex, and surf waves. They have few predators, so they’re relatively carefree.
After that day, I’ve firmly believed that dolphins are the most superior creatures on Earth.
My love of Yuck comes from being over saturated with complex orchestral indie-pop for the past 10 years. I still love the whole indie-pop scene with it’s 8-piece bands and 3-part harmonies, but hearing this record was fresh air to me.
